About Gedanken
Gedanken was founded some 15 years ago by David Cliff offering professional expression for people who sought to offer support and change for others, a commitment to stretching human development and a vision of organisations offering a real chance for human potential to flourish for the benefit of all.
“Keeping the humanity in a busy world” was our initial mission and this has not changed. Gedanken became a limited company in 2006. Although not a social enterprise, its focus on the role of people and organisations in communities is a central strand of our organisational philosophy.
We are proud to have been the inspiration for many new therapists, coaches, managers and businesses in that time. Additionally our interventions in life changing experiences for individuals and new directions for organisations has in it rewards that go before profit.
Over the last 10 years in excess of 2500 individuals have benefited from our services.
Our clients range from Managing Directors/CEO’s, celebrities and politicians through to new managers and the public at large.
Our corporate clientele ranges from large companies such as Serco and ITV, through to one person businesses, public services such as the NHS and Councils and charities.
David Cliff

David Cliff is a widely experienced trainer, manager and therapist. After training as a legal executive, David became a Psychiatric Social Worker and received commendation by the Social Services Inspectorate for innovative practices in change work with clients.
David is an experienced manager in both the public and private sector. He achieved an MBA in 1994. He has senior management experience within the NHS and is one of the first nationally accredited Counsellors and Psychotherapists with the BACP, which was achieved as far back as 1984. David is also a Full Member of the Association for Coaching.
David is Managing Director of Gedanken Ltd, a company specialising in coaching based support and personal development. He blends NLP, Cognitive Behavioural and other skills to provide a flexible, attractive range of interventions to individual and corporate clients. Additionally, David’s company provides counselling, stress management and other services to individuals, companies and the public sector.
David runs a private practice of coaching clients, ranging from CEO’s to new business start ups.

Carol Groombridge

Carol is a highly experienced business consultant and coach.
After a 28 year career in Banking, 12 years of that in management, Carol ran a recruitment agency for 5 years, then developed a financial social enterprise and prior to becoming self employed was a communications and marketing manager at Business Link. Carol is a qualified banker, has a Masters in Business Administration and a Diploma in Systems Practice. She is also a trained High Performance Coach.
She has been working with businesses in the North East of England, as a business mentor and coach, for over 3 years.
Her particular interest is in working the businesses that are planning for and working towards growth, ensuring that the business is running as effectively and efficiently as possible to achieve that growth.
Carol is an associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers, an International Management Board Director and Trustee of the Association of MBAs and an Associate Member of the Association for Coaching.
Janette Johnson
BEd, Dip Hum Couns, Dip Psych, CTA Performance Development Coach, AMAC
Janette is a Performance Development Coach and Trainer. She works with individuals and teams to identify and develop effective strategies to overcome barriers or blocks to growth, thus improving individual and team performance. This results in better use of people, skills and resources for the organisation, making it a cost effective investment in management and personal development.
Janette delivers tailored programmes of coaching and training in the following areas: Communication, Managing stress, Dealing with conflict/change, Working in a team, Work/life balance, Managing time, Problem solving, Assertiveness, Performance Anxieties, Career transitions, Capturing opportunities, Leadership.
Janette currently works with a range of clients including managers and senior managers within the NHS, local authorities and academia as well as a number of small business owners and individuals in the private sector.
Janette is an Associate member of the Association for Coaching, a qualified teacher and a qualified psychotherapist who has 15 years of experience of running a successful psychotherapy and training practice prior to her current coaching work. She trained for 7 years to become a Certified Transactional Analyst – a powerful and practical approach to communication which is at the heart of individual and organisational behaviour and performance.
